Trick or Treat Bucket Bag With Appliques - Free Digital Sewing Pattern

Samantha Stolinski·September 16, 2024
Trick or Treat Bucket Bag With Appliques - Free Digital Sewing Pattern

Our Trick or Treat bucket tote can be made in two different sizes and has three different strap lengths. Add a fun cat or jack-o'-lantern applique to complete your spooky season bag! This tote would also make a great book bag!

The pattern takes no more than one yard of fabric for each size.

•Download the pattern files to create the tote bag here.

•Thoroughly read the instructions before beginning.

•Attach interfacing to the wrong side of the fabric of the main pattern peices.

APPLIQUE TIPS

COLOR-BLOCK VERSION

Lay the color-block main top piece flat, right side facing up.

Place the color-block bottom main piece on top of the top main, right sides together. Sew the long raw edge to attach. Finish the raw edges.

Repeat for the back pieces and lining.

ALL VERSIONS

Lay the front and back main pieces on top of each other, right sides together. Sew the side seams and the straight bottom seam. Finish the raw edges.

Repeat for the lining pieces.

Lay the bag on its side and match the side and bottoms seams to close the opening. Pin the seams and raw edges in place.

Sew the raw edges together to close. Finish the raw edges.

Repeat for the other side and for the lining.

PREPARING THE STRAPS

Lay the strap pieces on top of each other, right sides

together.

Sew the long raw edges. Finish the raw edges.

Turn the straps right sides out. Topstitch the seams.

ADDING THE STRAPS

Use the side seams as a strap marker.

Place the strap on the inside of the lining. Pin the short raw edges to the side seams.

Turn the main shell right sides out and tuck it into the lining shell with right sides together.

This will sandwich the strap between the main and lining pieces.

Sew the circle of the top raw edge leaving a 4" opening  to turn the bag right side out.

Finish the raw edges.

•Turn the bag right sides out through the opening in the lining.

•Stitch the opening closed to finish the bag.

Designer tip: topstitch the seam where the straps are attached to add extra stability.
